My 2nd Soprano Partner in Crime

Ok, maybe not crime in the true sense of the word, but we were guilty of laughing or giggling a little too much during practice.
I will never forget meeting Anita for the first time. It was in choir (Desert Chapel). I sang 2nd soprano and was wary when this quiet woman, with the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen in my life, stepped into practice. We were both just learning the part, but I could tell she had some pretty good musical knowledge under her belt. I instantly felt like I needed to be on my best musical behavior, for surely she would know if I varied from the written notes in the slightest. Talk about intimidating. And to be perfectly honest, I didn't think she was any too impressed with me, or even that fond of me. This went on through our whole first practice.
The next week started the same.
When we came to a short break I turned to her and said, "Wow, you're really good. You are right on, and with just learning the music.. dang."
She lit up and said, "I was thinking the same thing about you!!"
Turns out we were BOTH sizing each other up! She had heard that I directed and thought I was scrutinizing every sound that came out of her mouth, so SHE was extra careful to not make a single mistake. She thought I wasn't too fond of HER! We both laughed and hugged each other.
From that moment on, she became one of my favorite people on the planet.
I love Anita more than any short (or long) story could ever convey. Even when we weren't in choir together, she would find me in church. I never laid eyes on her that we didn't hug. So incredibly beautiful, and with a smile that melted me every time.
Thank you God for sharing Anita with me. I miss her so very much. My life is better because of this wonderful friend.
